Á föstudaginn 24. október hafa um 40 launþega-, kvenna- og mannréttindasamtök boðað til verkfalls meðal kvenna og kvára til að mótmæla kynbundnu misrétti.
Ljóst er að töluverð röskun verður á starfsemi skólans þennan dag. Gera má ráð fyrir að fjöldi kennara leggi niður störf, mest konur og kvár sem fara í verkfall en auk þess má gera ráð fyrir að karlkyns kennarar sem eru t.d. með ung börn þurfi frá til að sinna þeim enda verður starfsemi grunn- og leikskóla verulega skert þennan dag.
Starfsemi mötuneytis verður í algjöru lágmarki auk þess sem þrif verða minni en venjulega. Þá verður engin starfsemi á skrifstofu og bókasafni skólans.
Verkmenntaskólinn á Akureyri styður að sjálfsögðu jafnt starfsfólk sem nemendur sem taka þátt í þessum baráttudegi. Sérstaklega bendum við á samstöðufundinn klukkan 11.15 á Ráðhústorgi. Stjórn Þórdunu vill koma því á framfæri að konur og kvár nemendur ætla að hittast fyrir utan Eymundsson kl. 11:00 og ganga saman að Ráðhústorgi. Öll eru hvött til að taka höndum saman í baráttunni fyrir jafnrétti kynjanna og því að stjórnvöld efni kröfur Kvennaárs.
Viðvera verður skráð þennan dag en fjarvistir þátttakenda verða felldar niður og því kemur þátttaka í deginum ekki niður á skólasókn.

Dear students and guardians
On Friday, October 24, around 40 labor, women’s, and human rights organizations have called for a women’s and non-binary people’s strike to protest gender inequality.
It is clear that there will be significant disruptions to school operations on this day. Many teachers are expected to go on strike — mostly women and non-binary staff and it is also likely that some male teachers with young children will need to stay home, as the operations of preschools and primary schools will be heavily affected.
The cafeteria will operate at a minimum, and cleaning services will be reduced. In addition, there will be no activity at the school office or library on this day.
Verkmenntaskólinn á Akureyri fully supports both staff and students who choose to participate in this day of action. We would especially like to highlight the solidarity gathering at 11:15 AM at Ráðhústorg. The board of Þórduna would also like to inform students that women and non-binary students will meet outside Eymundsson at 11:00 and walk together to Ráðhústorg. Everyone is encouraged to stand together in the fight for gender equality and to urge the government to meet the demands of the Women’s Strike.
Attendance will be recorded as usual on this day, but absences due to participation will be excused, so joining the event will not affect school attendance records.
